Our Services: What We Do

We offer Psychological and Neuropsychologist Assessment for individuals from 12 months through middle age.

In our outpatient office, Dr. Horner specializes in the assessment of children and adolescents with a range of presenting concerns. She draws on her extensive training and experience as both a clinician and evaluator, to help her clients feel at ease throughout the entire testing process, from an initial interview to understand a family’s concerns to the feedback session where results and recommendations are explained in a way that helps families feel like their concerns were understood and know how to get the ongoing supports they need.

Each assessment is tailored based on that initial interview, answering a range of referral questions including, Autism, social-emotional-behavioral disorders including anxiety, depression, and oppositional defiant disorders, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, and learning disabilities (including Dyslexia). Ongoing consultation with school and community providers is also offered, to support families in implementing recommendations for their child.

  • Assessments begin with an initial intake session (usually about 45-60 minutes in person or virtually) where we get to learn more about each client’s history and what they are seeking help for. During this session, we will determine together if testing is appropriate, and if we are a good fit.
  • If testing is recommended, we then schedule a second appointment for testing to occur in person. Only one client per day is scheduled so that we always have enough time to make sure we complete everything we need to.
  • As part of our testing process, with your permission, we gather information from the important people in your world – family, teachers, other providers, etc. We understand that everyone is part of an interconnected and dynamic system to make them who they are today, and we want to understand the whole you.
  • Two to three weeks after testing is completed, a feedback session will be scheduled (either in person or virtually), where we spend time going through the report, discussing a client’s strengths and areas of need, and what is recommended for next steps. This is all done in easy-to-understand language with opportunities for any questions. The goal is that by the end of this session, clients feel like they understand themselves and know how to get the support they need.

We also offer Psychoeducational Evaluations and more on-location at several public schools within the greater Boston area. This can include supporting the entire Special Education Department with assessment for initial and continued eligibility for special education services or helping assess more complex student profiles as well as when a district is struggling to meet compliance deadlines. Dr. Horner has several long-term partnerships and this is an area of specialty for her, very familiar with IDEA criteria and DESE regulations.

We offer Consultation services to our testing clients as well as to organizations.

  • For testing clients, ongoing consultation often involves helping families through special education (IEP) meetings or collaborating with therapists.
  • For organizations, most often schools, consultation can involve how to improve systems within the special education department or general classroom management strategies.
